P: Sailorspectrum

So many, many moons ago I signed up to do prizes for the 2012 Otaku Senshi Idol contest, a 3/4 picture of the top five senshi. Needless to say life, graduate school, and everything else has done its best to interfere with me ever producing art again, and yet I have somehow finally manage to at least complete the first one, for , who took first place with her beautiful Sailorspectrum.

And of course my scanner made what is actually a really nice picture in real life look like...well...something not-as-pretty. My manipulating it probably didn't make things much better (though before I touched it, the green and yellow were the same color, the blue was almost purple, and everything had really ugly hard lines), but I tried my best to save it. It's sad too, because I'm so proud of the real thing, and the way all the colors come together so nicely...I really need to find a good, useful tutorial for fixing art up in photoshop...

But on to the positive! Props to =ArtistMeli for her beautiful design. Sailorspectrum is not only a unique, well-fleshed-out character, but she is fun, colorful, and so very, very mahou-shoujo. I love her! I had a lot of fun choosing the right colors and blending them to get the best effect. The background isn't super creative, and the whole "let's use the opaque white to make shooting-start-like designs!" only sot of worked, but I still think it fits well. This character really inspired me to try new things in my designs, and to overcome some of my artistic limits. I may not have achieved them totally, but it's always nice to have goals and things to strive for!
