Description

So here's the profile for my UnAligned dwarf senshi for :icondwarf-alliance:, Sailorrán (silly dA won't let me put the accent mark in the title...)!  I based her on a Norse sea goddess (hence the fishing net bows), and tried to give her backstory something of a Nordic feel.  The coins on her fuku are based on an old tradition of bringing gold on ships--that way if they drowned, Rán would be pleased with their gift.  It seemed appropriate for an UnAligned senshi, mwahahahaha...

Dwarf Planet: 2000 YW134
Senshi Name: Sailorrán
Civilian Name:  Bylgja of the Unn
Age: Appears 19; several centuries in Earth years
Hair Color: Greenish blonde
Eye Color: Dark blue
Height: 5'9
Weight: 140 lbs

Realm of Influence: Treacherous waters
Weapon: Storm Net - A large black fisherman's net which can grow and shrink according to Rán's will.
Attacks:

Dark Whirlpool - Sailorrán summons a large whirlpool of energy and releases it at her foes.  Those trapped in the whirlpool slowly have their energy siphoned away.  It is extremely difficult to escape the whirlpool unless Rán becomes distracted or must engage in other combat.

Drowning Storm - Sailorrán casts her net at her foe, who becomes trapped.  The net glows blue, and emits a sphere of dark seawater and lightning which surrounds the trapped opponent.  The seawater is real; without aid, the victim of the attack will eventually drown.  The lightning does additional damage to the opponent, so even if he or she escapes the net, he or she will still suffer burns from the electricity.  This attack only works if Sailorrán can catch her opponent in her net--which is made somewhat easier by her net's ability to grow and shrink at will.

Personality: Bylgja is a rather typical member of her tribe.  She is coarse, brash, ill-mannered, and sometimes crude.  She means well, however, and always works with the best of intentions.  Honesty is extremely important to her, as is her personal freedom.  She is stronger than most of the people in her village, both in heart and mind, and is not afraid to do whatever is asked of her.  She is exceedingly flirtatious and somewhat promiscuous, though neither is especially unusual in her village.  What she lacks in formal education or booksmarts, she more than makes up for in general cleverness.  Pranks are her specialty.

History: Bylgja was born to a strong, healthy woman in the Unn tribe, a medium-sized group of fishermen who live along the coast of the Northern Sea on Rán.  Her mother was never quite sure who Bylgja's father was, but given that the village raised its children collectively, it mattered little.  Bylgja grew up alongside her biological brother Aegir, and several other village children.  One, a girl named Hefring, was her particular friend.

Bylgja was trained as both warrior (like all those in her tribe) and fisherman, and had a particular talent at using a net in both jobs.  She loved the sea, the smell of the salt, the feel of the fish tickling her feet, and would often go out swimming as soon as she woke up, and then again as soon as she completed her chores.  She was wild, untamed, and happy.  As she aged, she became no different around the young people in her village, flirting left and right with both men and women.  There was certainly more than one lover's tryst held behind the boathouse in the middle of the night.

One night, an older Bylgia dared her friend Hefring to come out swimming with her beneath the stars.  The two were splashing away and giggling like young children when they caught sight of dark masses approaching rapidly.  Pirates had come to plunder their village.

The girls had no time to reach the shore, and so Bylgja made the decision to cry for help from the water.  The pirates heard her cry, and within seconds, archers were firing arrows at the two.  One struck Hefring in the shoulder.  Bylgja, horrified, pulled her friend to shore and laid her out on the beach, as the villagers began to amass on the shore with bows, spears, tridents, and small cannons.  When Bylgja saw the wound, she was overcome with guilt, but moreso with anger.  The anger boiled in her heart and turned to rage.  Without realizing it, Bylgja's skin began to glow.  Her eyes turned a hollow blue color, and her clothes melted away to reveal a senshi fuku.  For a moment, everyone froze, staring at Sailorrán.  Without a word, she rose from Helfring's side, strode toward the water, and rather than walking into it, began to walk on top of it.  A few steps out, she raised her hands in front of her.  A massive whirlpool formed in the water beneath the pirates' ships, and they (and their crews) were sucked into the watery depths.  The few survivors were shot as they attempted to swim for shore.

The village was saved, Helfring healed, and word of the new soldier of Rán spread like wildfire across the planet.  Bylgja's predecessor as Sailorrán had reluctantly agreed to join the Alliance of dwarf planets many centuries prior.  However, Bylgja, being proud and fiercely independent, became suspicious of the Alliance.  Convinced that its members would eventually become corrupted by the power of the Anaoshak Abeerah, which would lead to violent attempts to take over her planet, Bylgja followed the will of her people and left the Alliance.  Additionally, she felt that it was much better to rely on herself and her own people than on others, that personal sovereignty and guaranteed individual freedom were preferable to following the will of a larger interstellar organization.

Planet: Rán is a binary trans-Neptunian object, mostly water with a handful of small, archipelago-like landmasses.  The population is rather small, and depends upon the sea for its survival.  Most people are fishermen, traders, or work in the shipping industry.  There is also fair amount of piracy which also occurs, and villagers must all be trained in combat in order to protect their villages from raids.  Rán has no formalized central government.  Most villages have an elected chief (male or female) who maintains order over the village.  There are a multitude of different dialects, however the planet itself has only one main language.  Its relative isolation has led to it becoming something of a closed society, very suspicious of outsiders and immigrants, and its relative individual freedom and the warlike nature of its people have made it very resistant to any kind of imperialism or colonization.  The one thing which unites the people of the planet is a love of and intense devotion to the guardian soldier, Sailorrán.  She is treated with an almost religious reverence; the people of her planet call her "the Sea-Blessed One" (for wherever she goes, the seas are always calm) and "the Great Protectoress."  Every citizen on the planet would lay down their lives for their soldier, who is considered the mother and guardian of all her planet's people.
